$500 hiring Incentive upon completion of three (3) months of continuous employment with the City of Coweta
- This position performs duties deemed to be “safety-sensitive” and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City”s policies*
Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work and operates various equipment to assist in the maintenance of the cemetery.
Minimum Education Requirements: Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent.
Direct Supervisor: Cemetery Sexton and/or Public Works Director
Supervisory Responsibility: None.
Primary Work Location: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration and wet and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is at times loud. Job Responsibilities
Assists with maintaining equipment and tools. Assists with the opening and closing of grave sites. Mow grass, trims hedges, trim trees and cut weeds as directed. Fills sunken grave sites, picks up trash and debris, throughout the cemetery. Assists in locating existing grave sites and marking for opening. Operates a variety of mowing equipment. Repair and install street signage. Pick up trash and litter as directed. Respond to work orders for all public works service requests, as assigned. Report equipment and tool defects to supervisor. Respond to after-hours call-outs. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge Required: – Basic knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in cemetery systems and general maintenance of streets and lanscapes. Must be familiar with or have the ability to become familiar with city cemetery rules, city code of ordinances, city safety policies and procedures. Necessary Skills: – Basic skill in the operation of common hand and power tools including shovels, wrenches, lawn mowers, weed eaters, saws, pumps, compressors, two-way radio, and telephone.
Preference given to applicants skilled in the operation of any or all of the following: zero-turn mower, dump truck, backhoe, mini-excavator. Required Abilities: – ~ Ability to operate and maintain various equipment used in cemetery maintenance and general repair and maintenance.
~ Adhere to all City and departmental safety policies and procedures.
~ Able to travel to other locations by operating a motor vehicle.
~ Understand and carry-out written and oral instructions.
~ Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
~ Work in inclement weather.
~ Establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, other departments, funeral personnel, and the general public. Physical Requirements

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus Qualifications
Must be able to read and write the English language.
Must be able to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Must be capable of driving a motor vehicle to travel to other locations on a frequent basis.
Must be available 24 hours for emergency call outs on a rotating schedule.
