Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for determining eligibility and enrolling qualified applicants in public assistance programs; prepares status reports. Flexibility to achieve performance excellence in a telework arrangement.
Duties and Responsibilities

Performs office duties such as answering phone calls, emails, faxes, mail from vendors, third party referrals or families

Meets with next of kin (NOK) to evaluate applicants’ eligibility for funeral, burial or cremation services
-
Prepares applications and verifies client information for burial assistance
-
Provides program information and eligibility requirements to NOK
-
Prepares documents related to services, cremations and reimbursement and forwards to vendor
-
Coordinate with funeral home the removal of body from Medical Examiner or other referring hospital or nursing home
-
Reviews and reconciles monthly invoices and death certificates submitted by vendors for accuracy
-
Prepares uploads to accounting and full enterprise content management (ECM) system for payment to be issued to vendor(s)

Refers applicants and clients to other public service agencies

May translate information for non-English-speaking clients

Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
-
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or closely related field, and three (3) years of direct client services experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Must have or be able to obtain a Community Health Worker Certification within 90 days from employment

Knowledge of human services field; knowledge of public service agencies and assistance programs

Skill in utilizing tact and diplomacy when dealing with diverse groups of individuals

Ability to operate personal computer and basic office equipment; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; ability to communicate effectively in Spanish and English, both verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, outside agencies/vendors and the general public

Demonstrates technological intuitiveness

Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance

Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test

Must be bilingual in English/Spanish

May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
